Holy Rosary

Have you all noticed that rosaries are popping up all over.
Now, don't get me wrong...I love them.
It's just that I have a hard time wearing a big ol' cross around my neck.

I came across one in my drawer.
It belonged to my grandmother.

When my mom died it was transferred to my safe keeping.
Real safe.....I totally forgot about it.

I decided to use it in my home....
(I'm sure, Bill, my Jewish husband, loves having this around the house. When he starts decorating he can have a say.)
I love it on this vintage lantern~

It feels so old to me.
I love holding it in my hands.
It's like a stress relief ball for me....just MUCH older~

Or...maybe I don't like wearing it because I feel like Mary is watching me.

Or maybe that Jesus is saying....
"Maisy, look what I had to do for you...now shape up"

Either way....I'm definitely not going to be wearing one any time soon.

PS In case you are wondering....I was raised catholic.
Even went to an all girl's catholic high school.
(loved my polyester skirt...that's why I'm not a big skirt fan)
However, I don't practice Catholicism any more.
PSS Another funny thing along those lines....not sure it's actually funny buuuuut....my Brother-In-Law is a Catholic Priest.
Holidays are fun around here :)

A little warning from your Jewish husband (with a brother who is a Catholic priest...long story...)...don't cross me!

Yeah, I am an alumni of a Parochial School (who also no longer strictly practices her religion) and I won't be wearing my rosary anytime soon either. But I think that your vignette is pretty darn (I can't bring myself to say damn) cute. ~ Robyn

I didn't know that people wore rosaries, well except for the laity. Half of my family is Catholic (my dad's half) and we're all Baptist. When I was in Italy I was able to get some rosaries that were blessed by the Pope and that was the one my grandma was buried with. I think it's nice that you have your mom's- and so what if you forgot it? The important thing is that you still have it!!

Oh, and on a weird note, by word verification for this comment is maryas

Your husband has an amazing sense of humour. Love his comment! p.s. I like rosaries and have several, but it did drive me crazy when I was a kid and my mom would pray her rosary during mass.

what a beautiful crystal rosary....

and I agree, they certainly aren't for fashion, but exactly what you mentioned...for protection and prayer.......and She is watching over you, as a tender Mother - no doubt about that....
what a wonderful keepsake from her

I would love to be a little mouse in your house at the holidays! I have been seeing rosaries all over too, are you suppose to wear it like a necklace? I have been wondering that for a while. I am not catholic so it seems kind of weird to me to just wear it, but at the same time, they are really cool. I'm putting WAY to much thought into this.
