I'm not sure if you know this but......
I'm gonna go out on a limb and assume most of you don't.
Growing up I was a candy store kid.
I'm mean literally.
My mom and dad owned and old fashioned candy store.
It's original store was in Oak Park, Illinois.
The name of it was Katie's Country Store.
(just to answer the question before it is asked....Katie is not a family name...although, now we have a Katie)
I have so many wonderful memories of that store.
Please, don't let me lead you in some fastasy world...it wasn't always the greatest being the owners daughter.
For one, I can't tell you how many times I ate toooooo much candy and was warned "Maisy, you are gonna throw up....you better slow down...."
I was as good as listener then as I am now.
PHEW...glad I got that guilty thought off my chest.
Now onto the good stuff.
We sold:
Candy..and lots of it :)
Popcorn
Fruit Drinks
Nuts
Homemade Fudge
Soft Serve Frozen Custard...only in the summer(can't tell ya how much fun it was to clean out that machine ALL the time)
Stuffed Animals
Gifware
and of course Holiday Candy.
ohhh....and the smell....it was sooooo good.
Sometimes I will catch that smell and I can actually feel my heart warm up and a smile appears on my face.
Just thinking about it makes me feel so good!
My mom was amazing at displaying all of it.
(my mom passed away 12 years ago...I know she's looking down on this post smiling...who am I kidding...she wondering' what the heck is a blog)
That leads me to the reason for this post (OK...OK...it takes me awhile these days...geez)
Get ready...I have ALWAYS wanted to own a candy store.
Since it's not possible to own a store front right now I will be bringing it to Etsy.
Keep an eye out....it will be up, running and live within the next month.
I'M SO EXCITED!!!!!!
I always knew when I was growing up I wanted to be the "Candy Lady."
I'm actually a bit giddy!
I don't seem to just stick my little itty bitty toes in...NO the whole body dives in. So wish me luck!!

Love hearing about your memories of the candy store. My family didn't own a store, but I spent alot of time going to the one down the street from where I lived. I got sick so many times. I'm a kid at heart because I still love candy!!!
I'm new here in the land of blog. My husband said to me "Stephenie, What the heck is a blog!!!!"
Anyway, I really liked visiting your beautiful blog.

I have such wonderful memories of a candy store in the town my grandparents lived in upstate NY, about an hour outside of the city where we lived...there were no candy stores like this in our neighborhood! My cousin and my sister and I would walk down to the candy store and spend the money my Oma gave us. What fun! Am looking forward to YOUR candy store. Sounds like fun!
Hey Maisy;
I have heard you talk about having a candy store ever since I met you. I am really proud of you for sticking your neck out and giving it a whirl. I KNOW that you will do great. Have fun with it!
What a great idea! Congrats! I love all of the old time candy! Jen
Oh wow...that will be neat! Can't wait to check it out! I love sweets! LOL
Blessings!
Good luck! I LOVE candy! My cousin and i used to walk to a candy store around the corner from her house and i'd have so much fun picking things out. I still do in the bulk section at the grocery store! Can't wait to see what you come up with! :)
Good luck! How exciting! I love reading your blog, you write the way I think! :) I hope your candy shop is the most popular one out there!
My husband and I bought Razzles after watching 13 Going on 30, then we found an old Benjamin Franklin across town still in business!!! We spent $30 on the old candies we grew up on and of course a pop gun, jacks, and various other toys that we used to love as kids! We spent the whole night eating more sugar than we had all year and playing outside until...yes the kids said they were tired of the mosquitoes and THEY were ready to go in...party poopers! ;)
Good luck Amy!
You already have a customer - me!
I just love the fact that the internet has opened so many doors for people like you and me, that now can have a little store and fulfill our dreams!
God Bless you and your candy store!
:o)
Amy,
That is amazing! I can't wait to see your new store. My favorite candy store is in Galena, Illinois. I loved it as a kid and I still take my kids there when we come home.
Congrats on your new venture! You just can't go wrong with candy!
~Michelle
you know i'll be buying.

I have never been to a real old fashion candy store, but I have read about them in books. : ) I can only imagine the yummy smells and the pretty candy displays.
That is a great idea for a shop.
I also love your flour sacks--great deal. Can't wait to see what you create.
Seriously?!!!!! I am so very super duper excited about your news! Oh my gosh i love Etsy!!! and now you will be apart of it! Your memories were so "sweet" to read! I could picture it now! What fun. Can't wait for your site to be up and running.
xo,

How fun! I can't wait to check it out. I was a candy kid myself. I wasn't raised in a candy store, however, I had grandparents with the biggest sweet tooth you've ever heard of. They kept me during the day and fed me full of whatever sort of candy I wanted. * Note: I blame them to this day for my weight issues! haha...
How exciting... Good luck!
That sure sounds like a lot of fun. Good luck!
What wonderful candy store memories! I can remember going to the corner shop and having a little brown paper bag filled with candies. Choosing 2 for a penny and 3 for a penny candies :-)What a great new adventure you're beginning ... Good Luck!!
Mmmmm...we are needing a great sugar fix after reading! Great news~~
blessings,

Well, I don't intend to make more of the crochet balls to sell on my etsy shop, at least not for now.
To make one takes a lot of time and patience... and at the moment I am just trying to relax... hehe
:o)
Very sweet, too sweet for my shabby beach cottage but my beach cottage kiddos would like that. Living by the seaside I encourage them to eat only healthy fresh foods.
I seek out vintage unloved treasures and make them over to give them a fresh look. Check out my blog, you will love it.
Time for my shabby beach cottage walk by the seaside, life is perfect in our beach cottage.
Thank you for the sweet comment on my room. You always bring a smile to my face with your posts and comments.
Wouldn't it be fun to have a big get together with other bloggers to decorate? Hmmm...maybe I should contact HGTV, I'm thinking that could be a great show!
~Michelle
Good Luck! Sounds like a sweet store! no pun intended! :)
What a fun adventure! Good luck!
You crack me up!
Be sure to let me know when that store is up and running - I think that is a great idea! ~ Robyn
