~Freaky~

Does anyone else think this Swine Flu thing is a bit freaky?
There are 2 cases in my county. One case in the county right next to us.
We are right in the middle.
I'm not sure if I should worry....or be happy that Bradley may be off of school for a few days.
I don't know about you but every third person in my town went to Mexico for spring break.
I'm not in the group of people who went.
*phew*
When these stories break I'm never quite sure how to react?
Remember the Avian flu??
Whatever happened to that?
Weren't we suppose to be freaking out about that too??
How about Mad Cow Disease??
SERIOUSLY PEOPLE, WHERE DID THEY ALL GO?
Are they with the sock that we all swear that went into the dryer, yet never came out??
Will this be the same?

I would love to hear what you have to say and what you are thinking~

I'm not sure what to think! It's not in my county yet and I'd probably be worried if it was but my kids bests friends went to Cancun for spring break so did they bring it back??? Could they have it and not show signs yet? I think the media likes to freak people out and get more viewers too!I just think we need to be cautious and wash our hands frequently and stand our distance from people who look sick I guess.
We shall see.

I think like this:
How many people die from DRUNK drivers.....thousands....they don't worry about that...
How about, food poisoning...the list is endless...for some reason I think they are using scare tactics.....truly, God numbers our days...should we be wise about hygiene?...yes...and leave the rest to the Lord

Amy, seriously, it has to be the island. We posted about the same thing, on the same day, we both had our 100th post this week, it's the presidents 100 day in office or something like that AND its the 100th episode of Lost! Just something to ponder! :)

I'm a little freaked too even though no cases have been reported in GA. I told my hubby that the word Pandemic was what is freaking me out. He said that is what the media wants. ; ) My mom told me today that one of the kids in her class' father drives a bus to Texas for people to go into Mexico to visit their families. Great! I'm a worrier though, so my hubby just rolls his eyes.

Deby is right about how many people die from so many different things, even regular flu. That is what my hubby said---I do think though that there have been pandemics throughout history and there can always be another. Does the fact though that we are more knowing about germs, have more meds and science at our disposal and better hygiene though make our time different than say, the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918? I wonder? I do plan to limit my time watching media and my son's also--he is 12 and is just like me w/the worrying.

It's very scary. I heard a rumor today that there were 4 cases in my county. We live very close to NYC where there are a lot of confirmed cases. Yikes!

Hard to say what happened to them, but I just heard that over 30,000 people die from the "flu" every year....
hyped or not- freaky - I agree

My husband just said the other day....our country is going to fall if the media continues to do what they are doing. They are causing hysteria where it is not needed....Do we need to be careful? YES.....but we need to be careful about a lot of things. And like the good anchors on a local station pointed out, at least it's this late in the season and it didn't start back in Jan. or Fed. The season for flu bugs will end soon, so we may be glad for the hot, humid days of summer if it means killing all the germs!!!

Let's don't add to the panic.

I'm starting to get a bit nervous about it. I can imagine you being extra worried since it is so close to you. There are people shrugging it off by saying that the normal flu results in many deaths a year. What is frightening about this particular flu is that it is going after healthy, young adults. Many of the deaths from regular flu will be in the young and old. So this is different. A friend of mine said this has been predicted in the medical community for some time now (she's a nurse). She said these things cycle and we are due. Scary! Stay away from those spring breakers!

I have been asking myself the same questions.

I think sometimes that these things are way overblown, but is it because they are overblown that people are more careful about hygiene, and so the horrible outbreak they predict never happens? hhmmmm. . . be careful, but don't be panicked, I think.

I am scared, mostly because of baby Lucas.
I'm praying for it to go away!

If it's such a big deal, I want to know why they don't close down the border between the US and Mexico?

I'll start to worry when if makes it's way to my neck of the woods.

Have a great day!!

More people are killed from the regular flu virus every year. I wish the news would report the truth instead of trying to freak everyone out. There always has to be some drama.

Oh, and by the way, these people that are wearing the masks aren't preventing anything. They DON'T work!

If someone contracts the Swine Flu, it can be treated. Just because you get it doesn't mean you are going to die. I wish the news media would tell everyone that!

I'm torn. Like I want to know if it is a big deal and need to be worried but often the big deal is made before anyone knows - then people worry needlessly. It's a circle I tell ya.

So true...I had a friend that was FREAKING out about the bird flu a few years ago....where is it...what happened?? I didn't even realize that over 30,000 die a year from the flu. It is usually more elderly and this flu is killing younger people too, but I just want to be smart. Wash hands and don't go to Chucky Cheese...that alone could stop the flu:-)

My hubby (the pilot) had a layover in Mexico City last week and is not the least bit worried about the swine flu. He keeps reminding me people die of the regular old flu every year. I'm not saying it's not a cause for some concern, but I do think the media whips us all into a hysteria over things.

Oh, and my husband casually mentioned to me he visited a pig farm when he was there last week. He's such a jokester.........

I think the media is just happy to have something new to talk about.

I was wondering the same thing. Why the big fuss over 100 people getting sick? Why closing all the schools. Is there something maybe they aren't telling us? Don't 36,000 people die every year from the flu? Is this different? My hubby leaves Sunday for Houston, where all the schools are closed. Fun for him and the other Army guys traveling with him!!! They are wearing their chemical warfare suits on the plane!!
